Norm Slosted - California North State Area Director

Norm Slosted currently serves as the California North State Area Director, based out of Redding, California.  Joining the FCA Western Regional Team in November of 2015, Norm brings over twenty-seven years of experience serving in the fields of education and Christian ministry.  During those years, he served at three Christian universities, one state university, and one PreK-12 Christian academy—a combined thirteen years as a university chief student affairs administrator and four years as a school superintendent.  In addition to serving in numerous lay ministry roles over the years, Norm also served as an Interim Associate Pastor at the Vineyard Church in Stafford, Texas before moving back to California in October of 2015.

Norm was born in Santa Barbara, California to Norm and Peggy Slosted, and grew up in Orange County with his parents and younger brother Troy.  His father entered full-time ministry and moved the family to Corralitos, a rural community in Santa Cruz County.  Norm attended and graduated from Aptos High School where he played football, baseball, and picked up surfing in the off-seasons.

Following high school graduation, Norm attended Azusa Pacific University (’77-’81), where he played football as an inside linebacker.  He had a notable college career that earned him All-American Honors and induction into the APU Athletic Hall of Fame.  During his undergraduate years, Norm was active on campus, singing in the male chorale and a quartet of football players, serving as a Resident Assistant in the freshmen residence hall, and participating with the on-campus FCA organization.

Norm graduated with his Bachelors of Arts in Psychology (’81), and later returned to APU to complete a Master of Arts in Student Development (’90) and a Doctorate in Education with a focus on Higher Education Leadership (’10).  He brings a wealth of administrative experience in organizational leadership to the FCA North State Area.

Norm met his wife Mary (Delatorre) as they both served on the Singles Ministry Team at Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Anaheim.  Their marital designation as “Single” did not remain long, as they were married within a year’s time (June 1994).  They have two children:  John (’96) who is attending Wheaton College, and Victoria (’98) who is currently attending Azusa Pacific University.

Having experienced the blessing of playing for Christian coaches at APU, Norm believes strongly in the value of integrating Faith and Sports and the privileged role coaches play in the lives of their players.  He comments, “I look forward to nurturing a community of coaches in the North State Area that supports, inspires, and equips them to have an even greater impact for Jesus Christ in their respective campuses and communities.”
